What is Intuitive Eating?
Does it work and is it better than other diets?
If you’re like me, always on the lookout for ways to enhance your well-being, you’re going to love this. So, grab a cup of tea, get cozy, and let’s dive into my 30-day intuitive eating experiment.
Intuitive Eating: A Fresh Perspective
I’ve always been a bit skeptical about intuitive eating. For years, my trusty food scale and MyFitnessPal have been my go-to companions for managing my nutrition. But after a recent vacation where I left the scale behind and listened to my body’s hunger cues, I experienced a refreshing break from the meticulous measuring. This inspired me to take on a 30-day challenge of eating intuitively once I got home.
The Principles of Intuitive Eating
For those new to the concept, intuitive eating is all about ditching the diet mentality. It’s about recognizing hunger, making peace with food, and understanding when you’re full. There are no “good” or “bad” foods, and it encourages you to listen to your body’s needs instead of following strict dietary rules.
My Intuitive Eating Journey
I started this challenge with a bit of skepticism, as a do have a tendency at times to overeat if I am not tracking my food. But, to my surprise, I found the experience quite liberating. I continued to focus on protein-rich meals and maintained my regular eating routine but without the weighing and measuring. I allowed myself to eat when I was hungry, even if it meant having a snack outside my usual schedule.
The Results Are In
After 30 days, I was amazed to find that my weight and measurements remained virtually unchanged. This was a success in my book, as I managed to maintain my fitness without the constant tracking. However, I’ve decided to return to measuring and tracking my food. It’s what works best for me, especially when I’m in a fat loss phase.
Is Intuitive Eating Right for You?
If your goal is fat loss, I wouldn’t recommend intuitive eating. From my experience and working with countless women, precise tracking is key to achieving results after 40. But if you’re at a point where you’re content with your body and looking to maintain your weight, intuitive eating might be a liberating approach to try.
