If you’re over 40 and think it’s too late for a transformation, buckle up. My story will change your mind.
I’m here to share a raw, unfiltered journey from hitting rock bottom to building a physique that even I sometimes can’t believe is mine.
The Dark Days
2014 was a nightmare. My 15-year marriage was disintegrating, and so was my mental health. Depression wasn’t just knocking; it had barged in and taken over my life. Therapy ? Been there, done that, and got nowhere. I was advised by a friend not to take medication unless I couldn’t get out of bed in the mornings. What a great friend and sound advice! I needed a lifeline, and fast.
Enter CrossFit: My Saving Grace
That lifeline turned out to be CrossFit. It was brutal, it was intense, and it was exactly what I needed. The physical pain was a welcome distraction from my emotional turmoil. Slowly, I started feeling something other than despair – I felt alive.
BUT, CrossFit was great – until it wasn’t. Injuries started piling up, and I had to make a tough call: drop it or risk more damage. I chose the former and pivoted to bodybuilding. It was a game-changer. The more I lifted, the more I saw my body – and my self-esteem – transform.
Finding Love and Lifting Heavy
2017 was a turning point. I met my life partner, and things started looking up. But there was still that itch – the itch to achieve a physique similar to that of a fitness model in a magazine. I ditched a useless coach, took control of my nutrition, and focused on what I wanted: muscle.
The Stage Beckons
Then, I was inspired by a woman at the gym who was preparing for a bodybuilding competition. I decided to pursue that path, but this time with a qualified coach. I interviewed three coaches and their clients, looking for someone experienced with women my age. Thankfully, I found Tracy, whom I’ve mentioned in one of my YouTube videos. She guided me to my first competition, and in September 2019, I finally achieved the body of my dreams after all those years. There I was, on stage, showcasing the body I had sculpted through blood, sweat, and tears. It was a moment of triumph, a testament to my resilience and hard work.
Spreading the Word
With my transformation came a desire to empower others. I started a YouTube channel and a blog to share my journey and provide honest, practical advice for women over 40. Seeing others succeed using my advice? That’s the real win.
